My plans to attend as a presenter in 2019 as a presenter were derailed with the financial need to support NARA in the final few hundred hours of what ended up being 1,060+ hours I volunteered of overtime work to catch up the entire Fort Worth center on backlogs. I was delighted to return in the second year of the pandemic as a Social Media Influencer with our 10,00 wonderful members at Genedocs Templates via Facebook Groups.
While millions of family researchers in all degrees of experience enjoyed this years three day event packed with a fantastic theme song about choosing connection, many great keynote speakers messages, 800+ new presentations in addition to access to all the 2021 offerings, much of the focus was understandably zoomed in on new technological offerings that influence our personal family photo collectons, what new ways the big three (FamilySearch, Ancestry, and MyHeritage) are each influencing the branches of our trees, and of course the 10 year long awaited release by NARA on 1 APR 2022 of one of our favorite and most used U.S. Records Collections in the genealogy realm.

As the 1950 Census is clearly the most anticipated records release this Spring, it certainly isn't the same old type of first day crash many of us witnessed in 2012 for the 1940 release. The biggest news tech-wise is that the at home time of many NARA folks was used to test and retest the new features of this massive 165TeraByte database
The most important feature will be researchers can use a new teted tool to submit corrections to names mistranscribed by the new Artificial Intelligence that scanned the handwritten entries of hundreds of thousands of enumerators nationwide on questionaires we all so greately love to peruse for just the right name. This is the first time researchers will have such an opportunity in U.S. history to quality review names of their relatives as they actually do their queries.
The most dynamic new tools were clearly from MyHeritage with the Storytelling spoken option to the 2021 Animation of any ancestors animated portrait. We quickly learned we could edit each chapter of the spoken story, select from a fair variety of multiregional male and female voices of a fwe ages even, and that there is also a great timeline feature they are still working out some of the bugs on like missing death years for ancestors who we obviously had entered full dates for that should hve been extractable - it still provides a wonderfully useful view in the context of major global historical events and allows teh view to see clear overlap of lifetimes as well as what I call near misses that would have prevented us from even being here today.
There are so many presentations, it is hared to pick a favorite in even the first month, but htat is why they will be available for a year, two, maybe three or more unless new technology makes them outdated so spend some quality free time viewing the key topics that interest you most and when you yearn for a new flavor, then try something completely new to you as well. They are usually 20 minutes to an hour to keep your attention and let you get up and move around between sessions, take a break, run an errand, etc.
Most of us are prepping this week with the fastest ways to searhc out our ancestors ED#s based on their addresses for next Fridays big release which NARA say happens at 12:01 am on 1 APR this year to get an earlier start

One more edit must add anoth3r column to this evolving 1950 Census Research Template thanks to Thomas MacEentee sharing how we can already search for Enumeration Districts at Ancestry in a beta version shared earlier today- Yay!

Partly because social media was hugely distracting with all the political strife over who would be the 26th President of the United States following the astounding past four years, this years deadly Pandemic, and hopefully heal so much of what America needs to survive and thrive as a world leader during such trying times demanding tremendous personal and community resilience from the Atlantic to the Pacific span of the country and well beyond our own borders to long standing allies suffering similarly in their own cherished beautiful sovereign lands.

Did I personally get any research done - not hardly any that I recall unless it was related to ancestors living during the last pandemic in 1917-1919...it is hard to believe I was working on the world's last Pandemic Records for the U.S. Food Administration on a NARA work project just a few years ago and now we are sack dab in the middle of the next contagious world afflicting deadly virus just over 100 years later!

Yes the Spanish Flu pandemic lasted two whole years apparently and none of us can imagine going through a repeat of this year's craziness the overturned so much of day to day living no matter where you were, what your class level, what you thought you knew, who you supported, etc . It has been far too long since I last posted to my blog, but clearly have been quite busy since in the end of May 2019 we finally crested the 8,000 member mark. I extend sincere thanks to all who have helped spread the word to like minded folks around the globe to reach this amazing goal.............................................................Genedocshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09428110138098032110noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1294305974376010173.post-22363493348257083882017-12-30T19:36:00.001-08:002017-12-30T19:36:26.602-08:002017:

It is official - I have not blogged this year until today. However, I have remained remarkably busy under considerable stress levels at work as well. Here is a recap of 2017's biggest mentions:

November - Genedocs Templates group surpassed the initial 7,000 member milestone !!!

On Ancestry I stumbled across the passenger list of the Sherman WWI Army transport from San Francisco to Manila with our grandfather Richard Jelle and his brother Henry both listed on the same page.

We attended two great family weddings from September - November !!!

I also began a group for Nerf Rival in the local area - need more outdoor active recreation ;-)

I would have more but a PC crash left much inaccessible :-(............................................................Genedocshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09428110138098032110noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1294305974376010173.post-92108693587925375812016-04-11T23:56:00.002-07:002016-04-11T23:56:52.528-07:00Family Legacy Protection 101

Who do you pay to protect your legacy on a regular basis to ensure it is safe from all reasonable threats?

1. An Attorney?
2. An Accountant?
3. A Legacy Preservation Expert?
4. A Surviving Former Victim of Harsh Attacks on their Family Legacy?

If you don't have all four covered, then your legacy is the most vulnerable to the threats most folks never see coming.

Who do you trust to bequeath your monetary legacy is one key part of protecting all you have worked so hard for over past decades, but there is much more than money to your legacy!

Who do you trust to bequeath your photographic and genealogical legacy?

Who do you entrust to bequeath your intellectual property?

Who will you be able to trust with your digital and on-line legacy?

It is a great deal to consider, but if you knew how things will turn out if you overlook each of these key legacy considerations, you would never wish the consequences upon any honorable person on earth.

If you met me, then you were given one of these to adhere to your conference badge - Saturday folks wore wristbands which seemed a deterrent to the ribbon joy, but better creative planning next time ;-)

after we saw them unrolling its pieces onto the floor during the tour. Back view:

Rootstech will change you and for the better I must add! You may need to spend some money to make it happen, but you will leave wishing you had twice as much time and money to invest in this wonderful even bringing so many like minded industry leaders together for such a fun time together!

Friday meant losing the tie, the collared shirt and replacing them both with an even bigger smile!
A smile like the late comedian Robin Williams used in the film Patch Adams to encite a response from every passer-by:

Yes this should and did do the trick - most peoples faces lit up whether they wanted to or not as they read this shirt and saw my big smile - they must have been thinking - "great, another completely crazy genealogy guy!"
We had more folks than 2015 but it was still quite managable and so many many youth - seeing them is always a highlight of excitement for us to know the future generations are embracing their first steps in journeys we each began so long ago, just as unsure, uncertain, and in my case at least so very hopeful that these family mysteries can be tackled some time in our lifetimes so that posterity doesn't have more questions than answers - if such a thing is possible in any genealogical endeavor - part of the perpetual fun with frustration I guess!

I didn't get as much interactions with the youth as I'd like, but I hope seeing a guy in his 40's in a bright Luau shirt and a Tee bearing one of our country's earliest historical documents on it with a big smile wandering confidently through their midst proved this all can be more than a little fun. You can actually have a blast when not being mistook by a fellow blogger for buddy Thomas MacEntee - that guy passing out prizes at the MyHeritage event on stage the previous night at the Marriott. LOL Indeed!

I have most of my cards left and a bunch of ribbons all of which I unreasonably for a second year at the event expected to hand out every last one. At least I was wise enough not to post a wetpaint address on each that would change to wikifoundry URL address just weeks after the even - domain challenge blues!
They are all keepsakes and this years can be used at future evens alone or in tandem with newer more improved Genodocsian versions. After all, I had intended on cool MOO printfinity cards with a different back design on each, but this is a partly a start up and lower expenses in any endeavor from the onset are something each entreprenuerial success speaker at rootstech repeated. Spend less up front and just get the successful idea out infront of potential investors. SO sheaper vistaprint with a 50% off wins this year - but so do I with more swag! Is it mere coincidence that Thomas MacEntee has dozens of unique PCnametag.com ribbon designs at the ready for our remarkable blogger group and his friends? No - he has invested years of conferenceing and lessons learned which, when combined with his strikingly similar sense of humor, ends up with some great cheekey adult humor possbilities for future year's badge ribbons! ............................................................Genedocshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09428110138098032110noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1294305974376010173.post-87967359347079271592016-02-07T15:43:00.000-08:002016-02-07T15:43:30.939-08:00Rootstech Saturday and Beyond...Ahhh...the end of another super conference melding genealogy types with technologists to break through frustrating hurdledes and pitfalls galore!

We the users almost always seem to win... well almost. This year I would like to recount some of my wins a

and losses and maybe a few break evens - you go to a conference with certain expectations - some reasonable - some ambitious - some down right out of this world lottery odds probably not going to happen!

Here is my smiling proof of satisfied customer #1 - I asked a stranger to take this pic and it took two takes- this one is much better.

How many takes were needed for the promototional shot's photo at the right? Way more than my two I am imagining.

I wasn't counting on photos with the former Governor or Doris K GOodwin who loved my bright shirt per her own words! She's a great lady!

I couldn't get most of my group info cards out to the masses and retained a good stack of ribbons for next year.

TECH WIN - I survived and did rather well running an smart phone with less than a week of use ! Still need to learn that video load to social media and patience and timing with photos of keynotes, but not too shabby for a brand newby!

LOSS - Slept less than 4 hours most days and missed two breakfasts , budgeting resources is always a heckle fest worthy endeavor in my astute opinion! Look how Tru
HUGE WINS - look at all the friends I finally met and new ones too from FB mostly but all are really gold when you get together such kind like minded souls abound which is so refreshing and we are so adult but fun to the core - some comments I won't repeat here but when Genealogy and adult film industry are mentioned in the same breath - you know genealogists are getting wild and crazy! Look at how friend True warmed up to this new found funny guy. When I met her she was crying from laughing. When we left Dear Myrt had her sad and teary so I got her another hug - we found out we both we prior military - both working with military police - both assigned to Korea practically the same years in the 90s. Wow small world - thanks for letting us discover our vast common ground beyond the geneacrazy in each of us! Shelley there with us is what Mom would have called a pickle too - great senses of humor abound in our group of blogging fun folks! This is by no means my last post on people I met and great meaningful spent time with , but a dose you can handle before I head to the airport...
It can be a challenge to fit all of this in one day, but trying has never been so much fun either ;-)
It's pretty late and tomorrow won't go well with no sleep so I hope you have enjoyed this or become impatient enough to join our Genedocs Templates Facebook Group to enjoy more real time updates from me. Thanks for your patience either way!
Additionally this is my main venue where familysearch can track my posting as an Ambassador using the #rootstech required official hashtag. Thus I have been providing real time updates in the Genedocs Templates group so now is a great time to join us on facebook and enjoy the dozens of FREE templates that 5,350 other genealogy minded folks have been loving. www.facebook.com/groups/genedocstemplates .

The Innovator Summit was exciting and lower key than the usual mass dash at rootstech, but well worth learning what vendors in the industry are working on. Most of us agreed all semi finalists should go to the finals rounds but 12 had to reduce to 6. Friday folks will get a chance to vote for winners at www.rootstech.org/discover so you can have a say directly texting your vote on who should get a shot at some of the over $100,000 in prize opportunities!
Day 1: Today was awesome after meeting so many familiar faces and names from social media in the blogging, genedocs following, and other genealogy realms I enjoy - it made it much more fun today that I had met so many and enjoyed time together yesterday for Innovators! Genedocs Founder's Input: As a previously twice life licensed sales rep. in Colorado during the first decade of the millennium and an attendee of the infamous Tom Hopkins seminar in 2010, I can tell you that getting a chance to hear presentations from this level of corporate sales giant in the billion + company realm is always a real treat and worth taking many notes of their decades of insight into what works for consumers and companies to keep business running and satisfaction higher than average with offered services and/or merchandise. Ken will surely make the innovator summit keynote one to remember for years to come for folks interested in improving their business opportunities or just starting out on a new biz adventure! I fly in on the 3rd and hope the shuttle can get me to the Palace in time to register and enjoy this impressive start to rootstech 2016! See you there if you can make it and if not I will do my best to keep readers posted on daily news as it unfolds.

I went at a great time in 2013 when things weren't so exponentially enormous like attendance last year cresting over 21,000 clearly due to Donnie Osmond and members of the Presidential Bush family being celebrity keynotes that did what celebrities do - draw unprecedented attention and crowds! My few days in 2013 were perhaps some of the most remarkable as far as interacting with others sharing the same interest and passion for family research!

I met fellow Geneabloggers Randy Seaver, and Heather Wilkinson Rojo, and Thomas MacEntee in person for starters which was great but somehow missed out on the prized geneablogger beads - hmmm? That oversight will not reoccur in 2016 :-).

I gave away about twenty T-Shirts for things as simple as the first person I met, the first person to sit next to me in a key note, the first person from TX to meet me, etc. Even one fella with Swedish roots who was the first to tell me a great joke about the Norwegians and the Swedes! Folks were always delighted and delightful to meet and there was never a moment without something fascinating to share with one another.

Did I mention there is a spot with an all you can eat sushi bar within walking distance?! You will eat well too and the entertainment is great seeing the Mormon Tabernacle Choir rehearsal live and a Capella groups is all real treat also!

It was the ideal venue for spring boarding ideas in a crowd of like-minded folks for Genedocs. Now I have some business to attend to. See you there if you can make it in 2016!
We made it to 5,000 Genedocs Templates Facebook Members! To Celebrate...

What the Pass includes: one 3-DAY PASS, it includes the following

2. To enter, you must submit a brand new template of your own designing using MS Office tools.

3. To enter, you will submit your template including a relevant privacy screened example from your family tree to the "Files" area of the Genedocs Templates Facebook Group page with a file name that includes both the words Rootstech and Contest.

4. Your template must be a tool that you could have most benefited from when you first began your family research whether you began last week or sometime decades ago. It should be universally applicable to others doing similar research in the following categories.

5. Your template submission should focus on one of the following general categories:

- Legal Category: (best method of organizing uncovered Last Wills, Trust documents, Contested Wills, etc. and their significance to the family as a whole)

- Audio/Visual Bonanza: Preserving a minimum of three audio and/or visual clips (1-2 minutes maximum for each clip in MS PPT

7. Submissions meeting all of these guideline rules prior to the cutoff date and time of 11:59 on 1 Jan 2016,
As Ambassadors to next February's annual conference, we are provided many nice perks for being social media springboards to our many followers - perhaps a few dozen or hundred on our genealogy related blogs and hundreds or even thousands more on our own relevant social media administered groups .
Need I mention our Genedocs Templates Group on Facebook is about 16 members away from our 5,000 member goal?

Yes - that is where I will be selecting my 3-Day Pass recipient in the next month. One of these can be worth up several hundred dollars with hundreds of top notch classes available to attend not to mention the always worthwhile keynotes and non-stop extravaganza of genea-activity you can enjoy and learn from in the expo hall.

If you know me at all and how I roll with offers, it is all about offering maximum quality and often a FREE cost level so do stay tuned on facebook in the next month or so if you are interested in winning a Free Pass. Also if you have already paid for one and win, there are instructions on being credited back your original purchase if you are selected as a winner of an Ambassador provided pass to Rootstech.
